Great stuff. It is good to hear you both. I believe that the Plenary Powers Doctrine stands today as the most singular example of Domination in US law, governance and injustice. The scale of the power and the target of it and the fact that it remains so intact today AND accepted by so many of us is astounding. I suppose the same could and should be said of the Trust Doctrine; another tool of domination that far too many Native people accept.
Peter- Thanks so much for this conversation. It's got my mind whirling and I was hoping maybe we could get together off the record again to talk about Domination and it's relation to the human values , moral and mores of different cultures--Indigenous vs those who have precticed the Domination of others --often bringing together "under one roof" so to speak numberous unrelated peoples and forcing them to adhere to the Domination of a Central Auuthority, Also to change these systems would require the Doiminators to relinquish or deplete the wealth and power they seek to accomplish goals for the people--a la Flint's water crisis==where change would require spending the Dominationators riches to make change. Anyway--my is churning around language as well. If you remember, we discussed that as well in the segment we didn't;t record- and I really appreciate you proceeding on to that in this fasciating and illuminating conversation. I learned so much! Please forgive all the typos in this--I broke my glasses again and can't see what I'm typing! James
Wonderful discussion! So i looked up the etymology: dis- "apart from" + quatere "shake", which you both did, shake apart the sneaky domination language and system. Also, what a loaded phrase "theology of domination" which alludes to an admission of their so-called God being THE dominator. And appreciated the mention of how people think that what is in a document e.g. the Constitution, makes you free, an example of how people become obedient to author-ity figures and actual texts which have nothing to do with actual experiences and their vibrant living energies/spirits.
After watching the PBS film I got to thinking about if there are many others like myself, who are I have no idea how else to say it, but are doubled colonized...first from the Spanish and then the English...and neither accept me because despite all the colonizing programming and conditioning from both families I have retained my Native\Original and free existing "indigenous roots" and don't identify with either colonizer and, therefore, EXTREMELY ostracized by both.
All because being born in the Andes mountains of so-called present day Colombia (Columbus) I have retained the Original knowledge that the Earth is Alive and she is our Mother and to have a sacred regard for All Living Beings...and to share.
This was so well done it could be a weekly podcast and the next one on "rights"! You two have such great chemistry and are so clear and concise in ALL your work!
I think we ALL agree we want more...on a weekly basis...most people bore me to tears but not the two of you! And then of course I also love listening to the always insightful and lovely Shawna Newcomb as well!
Serendipitously I just moved some books and had felt to watch this today; this morning I woke up and saw the among the books I had moved was Pagans In The Promise Land, which I'd given my husband to read first while I read Federal Anti Indian Law. I felt aligned to start reading it today!

It's probably best to let all the words blow away in the air as you walk your path on Mother. She understands who you are, without words... ♥️
Yes very true!

Also I like the rainbow in the back in the video!!
I wondered how many people might see that!
Pretty special. <3 <3
I noticed that too!
"We don't need a central domination." I agree.
Can't wait to listen!
