I realize that I have been trained to consider American history as a top-level category: other genres of histories (political history, women’s history, Civil War history, etc) derive from the source called American history. After listening to this interview, I am thinking anew, considering how American history is the subgenre.
Yes… very important to see through the eyes of those who were on the land before the invaders arrived and began their ‘history’…. much as my friend Steve Newcomb puts it in differentiating between the ‘view from the shore’ and the ‘view from the ships'
