Mashpee Nine—the book and film—packs a punch. It demonstrates that Indigenous Peoples across the continent—east and west of the Mississippi—confront the same issues: pressures to give up their lands and waters, assimilate and disappear into the long colonial project. Paula is a friend and I am so proud of her!

Thanks for the article. Life's so busy, it's easy to forget how often indigenous rights are trampled upon. I lived in Las Vegas for 3 years, and so I followed the Colorado water rights. If memory serves me correctly, there is actual wording in the treaty about the water rights of the indigenous population, but it is routinely ignored.
