Oh, wow! I can’t wait to read the rest. The idea of the legal rights of corporate persons has done so much mischief. Thanks for giving us what looks to be a clear and accessible guide on this issue.

Peter, the other day i was thinking.... whatta swap, as you've written about previously, corporate personhood and the taking away of respect, etc. for actual Peoples beginning with the Natives, so it's good to see this series happening. Part1 gives a sense how the world got so entrenched corporate mentality and nowadays it's do-it-yourself branding where individuals are able to, excited about self-corporatizing! The "immortality" angle says to me how everything is tinged with some sorta grappling with Spirit, whether genuine or distorted as is the corporate case. Also, in fascinating book am reading: "According to the Encyclopedia of Islam, '[Up]on the conquest of a non-Muslim country Muslims, the population which does not embrace Islam and which is not enslaved is guaranteed life, liberty, and, in a modified sense, property.'...These were the terms of the surrender of Christians to Moslems in 713 A.D. on the Iberian peninsula." I don't know if that's where the so-called founding fathers got it from but sure seems connected. (fr. "Ceremonies of Possession in Europe's Conquest of the New World, 1492-1640" by Patricia Seed)
